Steel engraving
Refined Elegance
The steel engraving is in the tradition of copper engraving, but isn’t old-fashined by far. For the one it is a obligatory, to the other it is a decent option: to have its own name in its most memorable form.
Procedure
In good old tradition the steel plate gets masterfully engraved by hand. In the press these cavities are filled with color and the substrate gets pressed into it.
Variants
On the old continent one is accustomed to steel engraving with the use of oil based colors. A fine shine is the characteristic of this traditional variant. Differentiating it from thermography the use of water based colors is preferred in northern America. The relief height is less and the surface is completely matte. Needless to say, that we can offer you both variants.
Use
Letterhead, business cards, leaflets, brochures - in fact anywhere where understated elegance is demanded to the finest detail.
Do & Dont
Fine lines, hatches and tiny typography - here, the steel engraving can play out its strengths. Thick elements and broad lines, however, require implementation in a cross-line grid.
In addition, a little patience is needed. The processing on modern, powerful laser printing is not a problem - but only after complete drying. This is accomplished after about one to three weeks, often sooner.
